Problems with Windows live messenger signing in behind D-Link Router
I recently bought a DI – 524 d-link router. It was easy to configure and works fine. But I am having two issues with it. The first being that Windows Live messenger just wouldnt sign in. I was getting error code 80048820 & 80048439. Port Forwarding doesnt work. What you need to do is go to your routers settings page. Usually 192.168.0.1 and click on WAN settings. Change the MTU value to 1400 and click ok. Now after the router restarts, it should work fine.
The second issue, which I am still working on is extremely slow speed even though I live in an apartment.. Well more on that later!
Indian ISP’s Block All Blogspot Blogs!
This is outrageous. Airtel and many other poplular ISP’s in India have well beaten China to Censorship. I cannot access ANY, I repeat ANY Blogspot blog. Apparantly this is because of a notice issued by the DoT(Department of Telecom) to the ISP’s to deny access to certain blogs specifically mumbaihelp.blogspot.com. Well Techtree says that this is because ISP’s lack the technology to block single websites and so have to block the entire domain :-O lol again WAT?
Vedic Maths – Multiplication of any number by 11, 12, 13 … 19 the fast and simple way!
I learnt a nifty trick today. It has to do with the age old study of Vedic Maths So here it is: For Example if we have to multiply 943 * 13 (bcd * 1.x) 1. Rewrite the number as 0943 (Add a zero to the beginning of the number to be multiplied) 2. Multiply the last digit (d) with the last digit of the number (x) here we get 3 * 3 = ____9 3. Multiply the second last digit (c) with x and then add the previous digit. Here 4 * 3 = 12 + 3 = 15. Now write 5 and carry 1 forward so the answer becomes ___59 4. Multiply the next digit (b) with x and add the previous digit and the carry. Here 9 * 3 = 27 + 4 = 31 + 1 (Carry) = 32 again carry 3 and write 2 in the answer so we get __259 5. Multiply next digit (0 in this case) with x and add the previous digit and the carry. So we get 0 * 3 = 0 + 9 = 9 + 3 (Carry) = 12. Now we get the final answer which is 12259 Go ahead give it a try with 86926431 * 18
Firefox 1.5.0.X cant copy/paste anything to clipboard – Scroll Wheel not Working
This is really funny.. My Firefox recently self-upgraded to 1.5.0.3. But this problem has been persistant since the first Firefox 1.5.0.1 release. It was really bugging me as I couldn't cut paste anything at all… Here's what seems to work…
1) Close all instances of firefox.
2) Goto c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
2) Rename firefox.exe to afirefox.exe (or any other name for that matter).
3) Start the renamed executable
Now everything works fine
I dont know why they cant fix this at Mozilla??
Ebay Phishing Scam – Looks real – Beware!
I just received one of the best written Phishing scams which probably a lot of users over the internet must be receiving. Beware of this scam, as it takes your username and password and submits it to the scammer, who may then misuse your account. Here is a copy of the mail that I received:
*************************************************************************
From: aw-confirms@ebay.com
Subject: eBay Bid Cancelled.

****************************************************************************
Looks real? I am sure it does, once you click on the Item Id, you are taken to a page where you have to enter your ebay username and password. Once you enter the username and password, you are eventually transferred to the real ebay site, where once again you will have to put in your username and password, this time its really with ebay…
The website where the information is collected is at this address http://0069dec.netsolhost.com/default.htm
I guess I figured out that this was a scam for the following reasons:
1. The website address in the toolbar is http://0069dec.netsolhost.com/default.htm and not with ebay.com domain
2. Authentic Ebay messages include the real name along with the ebay username in the header part, where this mail mentions the email address only.
Watch out for this scam and similar ones around the net!

I was using www.live.com to search for my research work and I must say that I was impressed. The interface is really cool. You dont need to change pages, just keep scrolling down, so before you know it you have looked through heaps of information. Chances are that you will find what you are looking for. The image search is also impressive. Nice layout, design and functionality. Lets hope the search becomes as good if not better than google!

India to be 3rd largest economy in 2006
“India is expected to become the world’s third largest economy this year after the United States and China, a leading economist in the US said on Tuesday.
Dr William T Wilson, chief economist for Keystone India, a Chicago-based firm providing cross-border trade facilitation and asset management services in the US and India, said after significant accelerations in economic growth recently, India’s economy is expected to equal or surpass Japan as the world’s third largest sometime in 2006.
“The results of liberalising strategic sectors such as telecom, banking, aviation and real estate are now beginning to show,” Wilson, a former chief economist for Ernst & Young, said.
Wilson said India’s economy measured in PPP (purchasing power parity) terms will eclipse the $4 trillion mark in 2006, making it equal to or greater than Japan’s.
Wilson noted that after growing at 8.5 per cent and 6.9 per cent in 2003 and 2004 respectively, India’s economy is expected to grow 7.8 per cent in 2005-2006 and then decelerate modestly to seven per cent in 2006-2007.”
Isn’t that simply amazing. We are living in times where India’s Shining! I bet this is a good time for most investment bankers and FII’s to enter the Indian Market, incase they already haven’t done so.
